Step 1: Download the Bonocle Companion App
To begin, the first thing you'll need is the Bonocle companion app. You can easily get it by following these steps:
QR Code Scan: Scan the QR code on a sticker at the back of your Bonocle packaging. This will directly take you to the app download page.
App Store: Alternatively, you can search for the Bonocle companion app in your device's app store and download it from there.
Step 2: Pairing Your Bonocle
Once you've downloaded the app, open it to begin the pairing process. It's quite straightforward; follow these simple steps:
Turn on Your Bonocle: Power up your Bonocle device. You'll feel a vibration, indicating it's active.
Pairing Button: Find the circular pairing button, located below the braille cell on the bottom side of your Bonocle. If you feel a hole, you've gone too far down; simply slide a bit further up to find the pairing button.
Confirmation: Confirm the pairing process by holding down the middle button.
Name Your Bonocle: Give your Bonocle a unique name to personalize it and make it truly yours.
That's it! Your Bonocle device is now paired with the companion app and ready to assist you.
Exploring the Companion App
Upon successful pairing, you'll find yourself on the app's home page, where you'll discover essential information, including:
Connection Status: Stay informed about your Bonocle's connectivity.
Battery Status: Keep an eye on your device's battery level.
Find Your Bonocle: Activate a strong vibration to locate your Bonocle quickly if needed.
You can navigate through all these options using the text-to-speech accessibility features on your device.
In the "Store" tab, you'll find information on all our applications currently available, as well as insights into what's currently under development.
Customizing Your Bonocle
Now, let's explore the settings menu, where you can personalize your Bonocle experience. With your Bonocle connected, go to "Reading Preferences" to make changes that will affect all our other apps, unless stated otherwise. This makes customization easy and convenient.
Here are some key customization options:
Motion Mode: This is our first reading mode, allowing you to move through text by sliding Bonocle over a surface in any direction. You can adjust the distance required to move from one letter to the next to match your reading speed and preferences.
Auto-Scroll Mode: This mode refreshes the braille cell through the text at a set speed, making it perfect for reading while commuting or during meetings. You can customize the refresh rate to suit your preferred pace.
Hand Preferences: Bonocle is designed to be symmetrical, allowing you to use it with either hand. It automatically remaps the buttons to match your choice.
Haptic Strength: Adjust the strength of vibrations to your liking.
Braille Code: Customize your Bonocle by selecting up to three languages, each with its own unique braille code.
